Instructors: Brock Husby, Ph.D., is a lean healthcare practitioner, researcher, coach, trainer and thought leader. He is a national and international speaker on a variety of topics related to lean healthcare. Husby is a lean VSM and kaizen event facilitator at a variety of healthcare facilities, from level-1 trauma center safety-net hospitals and clinics to community and regional hospital systems. He is the founder and manager of the LinkedIn “Lean & Toyota Production System Healthcare Professionals” group with over 3100 members (a group created to foster collaboration and discussion of issues and opportunities in this field). He earned his Ph.D. in Industrial & Operations Engineering from the University of Michigan. He co-authored Lean Daily Management for Healthcare Fieldbook.

Jerry Berlanga has 20+ years experience in Lean transformation with key healthcare organizations across the U.S. and Canada (UMass Memorial, Alpena General, UHS San Antonio, Alliance Imaging, Ontario Health Quality Council, Gonzaba Medical Group, etc.). Berlanga is a Lean healthcare teacher, coach and mentor. He co-authoredLean Daily Management for Healthcare Fieldbook.

Heather K. Anderson has more than 17 years experience in healthcare finance, operations and performance improvement and is currently the Vice President of Quality and Performance Management for the Baptist Health System, San Antonio, TX. Heather oversees quality reporting, performance improvement, patient safety, accreditation and risk management for Baptist. She is also responsible for the Lean operations of the system which includes development of the daily management structure, kaizen events, strategic deployments and Lean training and education. She has been with Baptist since 2008.

Heather serves as adjunct faculty for the Baptist School of Health Professions teaching Healthcare Performance and Process Improvement for the B.S. in Healthcare Management Program. Heather is also a certified Lean Six Sigma master black belt. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Texas at Austin and her Master of Business Administration/Master of Healthcare Administration from the University of Houston-Clear Lake.

Hung-Da Wan, Ph.D., is an associate professor in Mechanical Engineering Department of the University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA). He currently serves as the director of the Sustainable Manufacturing Systems Laboratory and assistant chair of Mechanical Engineering Department. Wan entered the doctoral program in the Grado Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering at Virginia Tech and received his Ph.D. degree in 2016. Then he joined the faculty of UTSA.

As one of the core faculty members of the Center for Advanced Manufacturing and Lean Systems (CAMLS) at UTSA, Dr. Wan has been involved in process improvement projects with several organizations, including manufacturing and non-manufacturing sectors. He is the organizer of the monthly continuous improvement professionals (CIP) meeting which is a platform for experience sharing among lean Six Sigma practitioners in San Antonio area. He has been teaching graduate and undergraduate courses in Six Sigma and Lean methodologies, Manufacturing Systems Modeling and Engineering, and computer integrated manufacturing (CIM) systems. His current research interests include systems performance assessment, Lean Six Sigma implementation, contemporary methods of continuous improvement, 3D Printing and digital manufacturing. He is also one of the main instructors of CAMLS Short Course Series of Lean Enterprise Transformation.
